How to Check Whether a Used OEM Part Fits Your Vehicle

A practical buying checklist for comparing part numbers, photos, vehicle details and included components before ordering.

Begin with the complete part number

Compare the full number on your original part with the number and label photos in the listing. Include suffixes and revision letters in your inquiry. If a number is missing or different, ask us to review it rather than choosing by appearance alone.

Send your VIN and the product link

Contact GearHub with your VIN, year, make, model and the specific listing you are considering. Add photos of the original label, connectors and mounting points where accessible. This gives us a clearer starting point than a model name by itself. We will review the information before you order.

Check what you will receive

Our photos show the actual part for sale. Review them for condition and included brackets, wiring and modules. Contents vary by item. Ask us about anything you cannot identify in the photos before buying, especially when replacing an assembly with several components.

Confirm installation requirements

Ask your installer whether the replacement needs programming, coding, adaptation or calibration. Matching a part number does not by itself establish that the installation will be plug and play. For electronic modules, read our programming guide and confirm the requirements for your specific vehicle before purchase.
